Here’s Your Ultimate Travel Packing List for Ireland

suitcase for your packing list Ireland

Ireland can be a pretty difficult travel destination to pack for because of our beautifully changeable Atlantic weather.

One minute, you can be basking in glorious sunshine and wishing you brought your shorts then find yourself watching the rain through an Irish pub window in the afternoon.

So when it comes to putting together your packing list for Ireland and getting ready for your trip, how do you know what to bring?

Winter ‘woolies’ and snow boots or your bikini and suncream?

Board shorts or thermal undies?

Thankfully, the weather in Ireland isn’t quite that bad. Once you’ve got your packing list sorted and you’ve prepared for every eventuality, you’ll have an absolutely awesome time here!

To help you along, we’ve put together what we like to think of as the ultimate packing list for Ireland.

Don’t feel like any of it is set in stone or anything (we won’t be annoyed if you bring along four bras) Use it as your guide of what not to forget on your dream trip to Ireland. Like the umbrella, for example….

But first, some general packing tips

Tip #1: Always travel as light as possible. You’ll never ever regret the freedom and ease that this gives you.

Tip #2: Ireland has shops. You can buy stuff if you really need it.
Tip #3: But that doesn’t mean you can buy stuff just for the sake of it. DON’T buy a new phone because you’re scared of losing your old one like one travel blogger I read about last week. That’s just silly!

Tip #4: Don’t forget the umbrella.

And now we’ve got that clear, here’s your packing list for Ireland 🙂

Don’t forget those essential travel docs

  • Travel tickets
  • Passport
  • Details of the hostel you’re staying at
  • Driving license
  • Health or travel insurance info
  • Your wallet or purse
  • Any car rental information
  • Your itinerary (for the organised types)
  • Emergency numbers

Or clothes for the unpredictable Irish weather

  • 7 x underwear & 3 bras
  • Lots of socks (at least 7 pairs!)
  • 1-2 x jeans or trousers (pants)
  • 3 x t-shirts
  • 3 x long-sleeved tops
  • 1 x sweater or fleece
  • 2 x comfortable shoes
  • Hat/scarf/ gloves
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Umbrella
  • Swim suit
  • Pyjamas or clothes you can lounge about in

Don’t forget your toiletries…

  • Shampoo & conditioner
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Soap
  • Deodorant
  • Hair brush/comb
  • Hair products
  • Make up
  • Razor and shaving cream
  • Suncream (well, we can always hope!)

And carry a small stash of first aid supplies

Resist the urge to go overboard with your first aid kit. They do have plasters, painkillers and anything else you might need in Irish pharmacies. Just take a small emergency supply, and you’ll be fine 🙂

  • Plasters (Band Aids)
  • Painkillers
  • Fingernail clippers
  • Tweezers
  • Any medication you might be taking or vitamins
  • Feminine hygiene product

You’ll probably need these gadgets & fancy electronic stuff too

NOT. FORGET. THE ADAPTER!! That’s all I have to say. Also remember to bring:

  • Travel adapter for Ireland
  • Your camera & charger or spare batteries
  • Spare memory cards
  • Kindle or other ereader
  • Cables and chargers
  • GPS if you plan to drive whilst you’re here

Or perhaps these other useful bits’n’bobs

  • Dirty laundry bag (plastic bag, old pillowcase..whatever works)
  • Journal/notebook and pen
  • Reusable bags for shopping (Ireland charges like the rest of the UK?)
  • Picnic stash (plastic plates, cutlery etc just in case).
  • Money belt
  • Day bag
  • Reusable water bottle

You see? That wasn’t so hard after all. Just take plenty of layers, get waterproofs and an umbrella, remember to bring a travel adapter with you, spare socks, and whatever else you’d like to bring with you on your trip to Ireland.
